Suez Canal Authority Building (Port Said)
The building of the Suez Canal Authority in Port Said or the headquarters of the Suez Canal Authority in Port Said is the building used by the Suez Canal Authority in Port Said, Egypt and to follow the movement of ships passing through the Suez Canal . Built by Khedive Abbas Hilmi II in 1895 AD, it is located directly on the bank of the canal and is considered the first building to occupy this privileged site. The building, which is an impressive architectural masterpiece, is truly the first thing that usually comes to mind when mentioning the name Port Said. Edmund Cognier, the French construction company, took over the construction, although it was not known exactly who was the engineer responsible for the design and construction process.
The building is considered one of the monuments recorded in the city of Port Said, and this building has witnessed the raising of the Egyptian flag by the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser after the British forces evacuated Egypt in 1956 marking the declaration of Egypt’s independence and its restoration to full sovereignty.
